This is a blog that focuses primarily on developments related in some way to health information technology, privacy and security. The blog is named after the “Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act of 2009″ (HITECH Act), which was passed as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). I created this blog as a way to track the numerous developments, at both the federal and state (Kentucky) levels, in HIT that will affect many of my lawfirm’s healthcare clients.

My primary focus under the HITECH Act concerns the stimulus for the adoption and implementation of electronic health records (EHRs) by physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers and suppliers, as well as Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOs) and others. The HITECH Law Blog also will encompass developments in privacy and security under the HITECH Act and the Heath Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This blog compiles the principal federal and state level websites that are being used to provide transparency as our nation moves forward with the implementation of health information technology under the HITECH Act (see my Blogroll). I’ve included links to a few other popular HIT websites as well, such as the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT).

With healthcare reform also on the horizon, the boundaries of what we are going to see and experience in health information technology may be, well, simply . . . limitless! I equate what we’re about to go through over the next few years in HIT to a roller coaster ride inside a time machine. So hang on to your hat! It may be a bit bumpy!

If I miss a key development or an important link, post a comment to let me know!
